| "RAVENNA 1" (Full-day) |
For a complete visit to Ravenna we suggest a
full-day guided tour (to a maximum of 6 hours) which will enable you to
fully appreciate the splendours of our art and history: the visit will include the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, the Orthodox Baptistry (5th century) the Archiepiscopal Museum housing the renowned 6th
century ivory throne, the Gothic Basilica of Sant'Apollinare
Nuovo and the Arian Baptistry
(early 6th century), the two splendid Byzantine churches of San
Vitale and Sant'Apollinare in Classe
(6th century). A visit to the recently discovered 6th.C. floor mosaics of
the House of Stone Carpets will make
you tour complete.All these marvels can be seen simply by taking a stroll through the centre of Ravenna and a short trip to S. Apollinare in Classe, just 4 km. away. During our walk in the pedestrian area you will have a chance to step into a mosaic workshop, have a pause for coffee in the main square and visit the Tomb of Dante Alighieri, Italy's most distinguished poet, who died here in 1321. |
| "RAVENNA 2" (half day) |
Even just a half day visit is enough to enjoy the best of what
Ravenna has to offer. The visit to the Early-Christian and Byzantine
mosaics of the 5th and 6th centuries includes: the Basilica
of S.Vitale, the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia,
the Basilica of Sant'Apollinare Nuovo, a
practical demonstration of the mosaic technique in a nearby workshop and then a walk
through the old city centre with a pause at the tomb of
Dante. |
| "RAVENNA IN ONE AND A HALF HOURS" |
| For those of you who cannot stay longer than 1 ˝ - hours a guided tour of the two most important and impressive monuments of Ravenna, i.e. the Church of San Vitale and the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, with a short visit to a nearby mosaic workshop can be organized. For such a short guided tour we offer a very favourable tariff. |
| "RAVENNA, CITY OF MOSAICS" |
Besides the usual half or full day's visit you can
attend a lesson of 1˝ hours including about 100 slides for a deeper
understanding of mosaic art and technique from its origins in the 5th century BC to modern
times. This package also includes a practical demonstration
of the technique in the studio of a well-known mosaicist of
Ravenna where you can buy or order mosaics. |
| "RAVENNA FESTIVAL" |
In the summer of every year Ravenna stages an important
music festival. Maestro Riccardo Muti, who lives in Ravenna when he is not
conducting orchestras in major theatres all over the world is the first of the
Festival's
performers we should mention. After the guided tour you can go to a concert or a lyric
opera at one of the most famous classical music festivals in Europe. |

| RAVENNA with TOUR GUIDE SYSTEM |
| In high season monuments in Ravenna may get very crowded. Upon request we can rent equipment to make your guided tour more comfortable. The guide wears a compact transmitter and speaks in a headset microphone. Each participant of the tour will be supplied with a portable receiver and lightweight headphones allowing to move around while listening to the guide’s commentary. In the 11th century, the scholars of Bologna studied the Roman Law books, inherited from Byzantine Ravenna. This gave rise to the birth of
Europe’s oldest University. But Bologna is also the lively capital city of Emilia-Romagna, renowned for its
red-brick palaces and churches, street-long porticoes, medieval
towers and its excellent cuisine. |
| "ARTS AND SPORTS" |
If you wish to combine your interest
in the arts with your love for sports you may find the district of Ravenna an ideal
holiday destination: the Adriatica Golf Club,
20 minutes' drive from Ravenna, is a wonderful eighteen-hole course surrounded by pine
trees, close to the sea. Other 8 golf courses
in the region provide a unique itinerary stretching from the sandy beaches of the Adriatic
to the green hills of the Apennines. |

treasures of Early Christian and Byzantine mosaic art
with the Renaissance style of Faenza's Cathedral

in Ravenna and a ceramic workshop in Faenza will complete the tour. |

Trips of one or more days into the surrounding hills of Romagna
can be organised on request to discover small medieval towns with
tasting of the dishes and wines of the typical
restaurants and inns.

| Visits to the lagoon of Comacchio and the Po delta with excursions by boat or bicycle into the nature areas such as the ancient San Vitale pinewood or the "Boscone della Mesola" forest. Along the route it is possible to visit the lagoon town of Comacchio and the splendid Romanesque Abbey of Pomposa with its frescoes of the Giotto school (14th C.). |
